Last Saturday marked the official beginning of our covenantal relationship of shared ministry with Rev. Charlotte.  So, what does it mean to share ministry? In simplest terms, it means both laypeople and clergy engage in the ministry together.  Our ministry consists of  all the actions we take to fulfil our mission. The Committee on Shared Ministry exists, in part, to promote this understanding, and to assess its effectiveness.  It helps to remember just exactly what our mission is…

We gather to create community, nurture spiritual growth, and act on our values. Together, guided by reason and inspired by love, we celebrate diversity, confront oppression, and promote  environmental and social justice.

(Adopted January 23, 2022)

As Rev. Charlotte reminded us a few weeks ago, our mission is part and parcel with a covenant. The Congregation approved this covenant soon after adopting our mission statement:

As a compassionate and nurturing community, we:

  • Affirm our interdependence by celebrating our differences and the gifts each of us bring.
  • Create a brave and courageous space that welcomes our whole selves while providing fertile ground for challenging discussions.
  • Treat each other respectfully regardless of our differences, calling each other back into covenant with love when needed.
  • Support the work of our congregation with both time and money to the extent allowed by our circumstances.
  • Share the responsibility of creating a nurturing environment that widens our circle of inclusion for all.

(Adopted June 11, 2023)

A mission provides a clear, shared purpose and direction, while a covenant forms a sacred, binding commitment that fosters unity and relationship with one another. Together, they empower us to act with integrity, creating a strong community focused on upholding our shared values.

The Committee on Shared Ministry invites all of our FUUN community to explore how we  as individuals, our families, and the groups with which we are involved, are meeting our mission and practicing our covenant. You will be hearing more from us on this subject in the coming months.
