Dear Ones,
This message is set to greet you on Thanksgiving morning. Happy Tofurkey Day friends!
Whether you celebrate this day by cooking an elaborately planned meal, watching the Macy’s Day Parade and National Dog Show, traveling to see family and friends, running a marathon, reflecting on the challenging legacy of this day, or volunteering to help our neighbors in need- I hope you have taken at least one moment to breathe deeply, look around you, and take in the people, places and things you are grateful for.
If you’re anything like me, you might feel the pressure to create magical moments during the holidays with your family and need a gentle reminder that an idealized Norman-Rockwell-holiday doesn’t actually exist in real life. Even the privileged existence of the McCallister family in Home Alone didn’t cushion them from holiday disaster!
Instead the chaos and the messiness of reality create the moments we will look back on as the most delicious of our lives: the dog stealing food off plates when no one’s watching, the kids screaming through the house chasing one another, mounds of dirty dishes piling up, peals of laughter bursting through the ruckus, the smell of cranberry sauce (canned of course!), the inevitable pushing back of the mealtime in continuous 10-15 minute increments. Add them together and yes- you have an over-stimulating and exhausting day, but I hope a real-life magical memory as well.
Whatever this day looks like for you, whatever chaos and challenges you have had, may you know you are a valuable member of the FUUN community and as such, I am feeling especially grateful for you this Thanksgiving day and in all the days to come.
With Gratitude and Anticipation of Fluffy Mashed Potatoes,
Rev. Charlotte
