First UU Church of Nashville hosts multiple small group and recurring church-wide events focused on building community and connection. Several events are open to people of all ages and others are available in person and virtually. Whatever way is best for you to connect, you will find options for building a shared community.
Our programs include:
FUUN Book Group: Meetings on the third Tuesday from noon-1:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. Selections are posted in our announcements at least a month in advance.
Dinners for 9: Dinners for 9 is a great way to socialize with other UU members and friends, new and old. Registration is required and happens each fall.
New to Dinners for Nine?
This is how it works:
• Groups of 9 people are put together by the Fellowship Committee based on your input in the Registration Form below.
• Most groups meet monthly. At the first dinner, the group should decide what meeting schedule will work best for them.
• Each dinner is hosted by a different group member, usually at the host’s house. Every participant is expected to host at least once. Some may prefer to host at a restaurant, park or at the church, for a nice change of pace.
• The host prepares an entrée, and other group members bring an appetizer, side dish, salad, wine, bread or dessert.
Wednesday Night Dinners: Join us in the social hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays for a potluck style meal.
Second Saturday Movie Nights: Join us at FUUN for a movie night each month. A basic ticket is $5 for 1 Adult. Children under 14 are free. Basic Ticket purchase also gets you popcorn and a drink. Each month a classic movie curated by the Premium Ticket auction winners will be shown at FUUN. Films will be Child-friendly.
Sharing Circles: In a large congregation like ours, one of the best ways to get to know others and feel a sense of belonging is to join a small group. Whether you are new to us or have been a member for years, our Sharing Circles are a wonderful way to meet new people, foster meaningful connections, and deepen your personal spiritual journey.
All circle programs include groups of six to ten people who gather for meetings following a similar format. They open with a chalice lighting, have a check-in, and share readings that are pertinent to the topic of that particular meeting. One or two rounds of individual sharing comprise the greatest portion of the time. Meetings end with a closing reading and extinguishing the chalice.
In all circles, members agree to a set of their own covenants, which may include confidentiality, active listening, withholding judgment, etc.
Men's Group: The Men’s Group is FUUN men, gender non-binary folx, and trans men who meet to share what’s going on in their lives, socialize, and discuss societal concerns. Members and Friends are welcome. Meets the 1st Sundays monthly, 5-6 p.m. on Zoom.
Trans Affirming Collective: The Trans Affirming Collective, or TAC, is a Social Justice Action Team at FUUN formed in 2017 and dedicated to creating community through action and fellowship activities that let our transgender and gender nonbinary siblings feel welcomed and needed at FUUN. Annual events include hosting a booth at Nashville PRIDE, assisting with planning our Transgender Day of Visibility Service, and numerous small fellowship gatherings.
Chalice Fire Ministry: Pagans! We are the earth-centered spirituality ministry of First UU, which means we use too many words to say we honor the sacred rhythms of the earth.
We all have bodies and we live on this earth. That’s a lot to have in common. Let’s honor it. Let’s celebrate it!
You do not have to be pagan to join us! All rituals affirm the 8 UU Principles and are atheist/humanist friendly. For us, it’s about an experience of connection, and YOU get to decide what to connect to: the divine, the earth, the community, yourself, etc.
All are welcome to attend our Sabbat celebrations throughout the Wheel of the Year. Experience drum circles, moments of meditation, and fellowship with one another.
