At the Sunday May 24 Service (10AM), special guest Kyshona will premiere a choral arrangement of her song “Covered”, backed by the FUUN Choir and friends.
As a music therapist, Kyshona worked for more than 13 years in treatment facilities, rehabilitation programs, mental health facilities, forensics units, nursing homes and special needs schools. With a degree in Music Therapy from The University of Georgia and many years of songwriting experience, Kyshona has merged her two worlds to focus on one mission: To be a voice and a vessel for those that feel lost, forgotten, silenced and who are hurting. Her passion to heal in community led her to create the organization Your Song, a collaborative songwriting program that connects performing arts centers, musicians, and artists with vulnerable communities to promote healing and community connectedness. Her passion for songwriting led her to Nashville to join our vibrant creative community.
Kyshona’s most recent project LEGACY focuses on family. Through stories, photos, film, ancestry and genealogy research, she shares her story while inviting listeners to join her in exploration of self, healing and growth. Since the album LEGACY was released in 2024, she has extensively toured the US and Europe, offering concerts, speaking events, and workshops and other experiences. Among her many accolades, her song “Nighttime Animal”, co-written with ZG Smith, was named to American Songwriter’s Top 25 Songs of 2022. She was invited to give a keynote address for 2023 Fulbright Scholars, and is featured in the 2023 PBS television show, "Ear to the Common Ground," which gathers fans around a dining table to discuss voting rights. In 2025 she was a guest artist on the radio show Mountain Stage with Kathy Mattea. She also collaborated with the Centennial Park Conservancy on recordings and videos done inside Nashville’s Parthenon.
“Covered” was arranged for choir by David W. Haas.
