“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country and this world.” Sharon Salzberg
Friends,
Never before has the importance of voting been so evident. For Unitarian Universalists, not only is voting a civic responsibility, it is an expression of our faith values. We vote not just for what is good for ourselves, we vote for the kind of world that is possible, the kind of world where all life can flourish. Voting affirms that we honor the interdependent web of existence.
The week leading up to election day is traditionally one of anticipation, suspense and uncertainty, feelings that are heightened this year. This is a good time to lean into practices that build resilience and nurture a sense of well-being. Connect with the important people in your life. Share a meal. Play a game. Make music. Spend time in nature. Read poetry. Make a gratitude list. Move your body.
Vote, if you haven’t already. Remind your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to vote.
Because voting is important to us and there is so much riding on the outcome of the upcoming election, the Unitarian Universalist Association is offering opportunities to gather online with other Unitarian Universalists in response to whatever happens after election day. It is reassuring to know that no matter what comes next, we are not alone. We are part of an interdependent network of congregations and communities that share our values. Check out the links below for post-election activities with other UU’s.
Yours in shared ministry,
Rev. Diane
