Team Updates
PALMER LECTURE-Pleased that their balance is $1500. The team has issued an invitation to Justin Jones to speak at the next Palmer Lecture.
BELOVED COMMUNITY-Recently hosted the second workshop for Subtle Acts of Inclusion-the team hopes to continue to build and reinforce ‘habits of the mind’ at FUUN to assure that no one feels excluded. Carleen and Valetta are leading the charge on Indigenous Justice. They are responsible for FUUN’s new land acknowledgement statement. They have placed brochures on the social justice table titled, Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery- which pretty much states that if no white people are on the land, explorers could claim the land. They are also planning on updating the bulletin board closest to the coffee kitchen to further explain their efforts.
NOAH-Economic Equity and Jobs Task Force is working with the mayor to implement the equity provision around the new transportation changes. This would entail things like marginalized people being provided with a decreased riding fee and providing safe corridors in neighborhoods where bus lines pass through to name is few of the provisions.
EDUCATION TASK FORCE is working to remedy an issue at Pearl Cohn High School regarding funds they did not receive (perhaps for the emotional learning and reparations)-which the task force heavily encouraged in the past. NOAH is also working diligently to rebuild a relationship with the superintendent of schools.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING TASK FORCE is partnering with The Education Task Force to address the unhoused student population in Nashville.
THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE TASK FORCE has been renamed to the Transformational Justice Tack Force to better represent the work they are doing. They are presently working to help MNPD to institute a zero tolerance for sexual misconduct in relation to police against citizens (it’s the second largest complaint against police after violence against citizens).
NOAH Fund Raising Gala will be held in June-stay tuned.
LARGER FAITH-Voting for the Actions of Immediate Witness statements were online on the FUUN website. Congregations are encouraged to vote for submissions made by churches prior to the General Assembly. These three will most likely make it to GA, if agreed upon there, congregations will then be encouraged to work on these AIWs.
HABITAT-The Habitat Fund Raiser and Art Auction will be held on February 15th at FUUN. The money being raised is FUUN’s commitment to the fall build.
TRUST-graciously matched end of the year giving up to $20,000. Because of this commitment, no grants will be awarded this year.
