We have Sunday morning Religious Education classes for:
- PreK: 3- and 1st grade. (Those who are potty trained and are 3 years old by September 1.)
- 2nd-5th Grades
- 6th-8th Grades
When You Arrive...
- Please go to the Know FUUN table and…
- If this is your first visit or you are a returning guest, you will be provided with stick-on name tags. Please do be sure that your child(ren) use them so that volunteer teachers can identify them.
- If you regularly attend or are a member, you should find nametags for you and for your child(ren) waiting for you. Please do be sure that your child(ren) use them so that volunteer teachers can identify them.
- Then please go to the religious education (RE) table.
- If you are new, please use one of the tablets available to register your child(ren) for religious education (RE) classes. This is important so that while your child(ren) is in our care, we know if they have allergies, how to contact you, and other such information that allows us to keep them safe. (If you are a one-time visitor, this step is not necessary. But if you are unsure, there’s never any harm in registering.)
- If your child(ren) is in preK – 5th grade, you will sign your child in on the “pink sheets.” Be sure to include all information, such as where you will be and whether we should know about any allergies.
- Go with your child(ren) into the sanctuary. You will experience the beginning of the service together.
Know that we appreciate “joyful noise.” Do not feel that you must leave the sanctuary if your child(ren) can be heard. If you do feel it necessary to leave, we usually have the service playing on the screen in the social hall (where the Know FUUN and RE tables are). If you see our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Marguerite Mills, she’ll be happy to go with you and answer questions you and/or your child(ren) have about the service or the church. Or y’all can just color…
4. After the offering, at approximately 10:30 a.m., children are sung out to their RE classes. If this is your first time with us and your child(ren) is in preK-5th grade, please go with them across the parking lot to Morgan House where classes take place so that you will know where to go and sign them out when classes are over at 11:30. Or if you wish, you are always welcome to stay in class with your child(ren).
If your child(ren) prefers to remain in the service with you, feel free to take an activity packet from the RE table in the social hall. And remember – a “joyful noise” is always welcome.
After the Service
- The service typically ends at about 11 a.m., so please feel free to have a cup of coffee or tea and meet some folx before picking up your child(ren). There is additional information at the RE table, the Know FUUN table, and other tables, such as the one about our social justice efforts.
- At 11:30 a.m., if your child(ren) is in preK – 5th grade, please go to their classroom in Morgan House to sign them out.
There are always a variety of ways that our children participate in worship services. Two of them are:
- On the fourth Sunday of each month, a family/child/youth is invited to participate as the Worship Assistant, which includes offering the Chalice Lighting, reading the Welcome, helping to take up the offering, and more. Let us know if you would like to participate in this way!
- At the end of the academic year in mid-May, the children give a gift to the congregation by sharing what they have done in their classes that year as a part of RE Sunday.
