“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. - Meister Eckhart

Friends,

This past Sunday, the church held a party to thank me for my 5 years of service as your Developmental Minister. It was the beginning of a long goodbye. My final day with you will be June 15. Now it is my turn to thank all of you.

Thank you everyone who shows up – in person or online –  to make FUUN a vibrant, inclusive community. Whether you have been coming here for 50 years or 5 years or 5 days, you are a vital part of making things happen here. Without you, none of it would be possible.

Thank you everyone who shows up for our children and youth. Nurturing, teaching, and guiding these young lives is sacred work. Your commitment to our children and youth is how we ensure a better future for the church and for the world.

Thank you lay leaders, too numerous to name, who dedicate yourselves to the work of the church, serving on teams, committees, and boards. Everything the church does depends on you, from planning and leading worship, to singing in the choir, to leading the congregation in social justice work, to welcoming people into membership, to providing lay ministry to members in their times of need, to caring for our buildings and grounds, to managing budgets and worrying over finances, to organizing fund raising events, to providing coffee, snacks, and dinners, to connecting us with our larger faith, to guiding the mission and vision of the church through service on the board of directors – and so much more. Everything that happens at church happens because of people like you. It takes a village, as they say.

Thank you to FUUN’s professional staff team. You exemplify Unitarian Universalist values while working together as a team to support the congregation in living out its mission. I have enjoyed working with each and every one of you.

Lastly, thank you everyone who stuck it out through COVID times, who, through tenacity and creativity, kept the church afloat during times of uncertainty and rapid change.

When I came to you 5 years ago, we all knew the deal. As a developmental minister, you don’t get to keep me and I don’t get to keep you, except in fond memories and appreciation for all we accomplished together.

The long goodbye continues for four more weeks. Let us cherish every moment.

Yours in shared ministry,

Rev. Diane
