In adopting the Eighth Principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association, our congregation covenanted "to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community your actions that accountable dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions."
In furtherance of this work, at the January 2026 congregational meeting, the Beloved Community Team will ask the congregation to adopt a covenant -- an agreement freely entered into, like the 8th Principle -- to create welcoming spaces where subtle acts of exclusion are not "called out," but rather result in courageous conversations marked by curiosity, empathy, and openness, and always grounded in Love.
The SAE Conversations Series will familiarize members of FUUN with the practices--pausing the action, expressing concern, assuming good intentions, setting aside defensiveness, and expressing curiosity and openness--that will ensure our church is a place where everyone feels truly welcomed.
The Beloved Community Team invites you to attend our series of small-group conversations about our proposed covenant to create a welcoming, inclusive community by recognizing and responding to subtle acts of exclusion (SAE, also called microaggressions).
We will meet at 11:30, in the Bartok Room, on the following Sunday mornings: July 13 and 27; August 17; September 7 and 21; October 5 and 19; November 2 and 16; and December 7. All are welcome to attend one, or a couple, or many of these conversations!
