Board, Staff, Friends, and Members of First Unitarian Universalist Church,
It is bittersweet that I resign my role as Director of Music Ministries at First UU Nashville. It’s not you, it’s me. I have been offered a role as a Pastor in my own tradition: the Disciples of Christ. This has been something I have felt called to for a while now, so while it will be hard to leave FUUN, I look forward to what God has in store for me.
My time here at FUUN has been so life-giving. I have loved learning about your tradition, your hymnody, and your theology. It has widened my worldview and also informed my own approach to ministry. My time here has been so rewarding in both a ministerial sense and a musical sense. During my time here, we have welcomed guest musicians like Cantor Tracy Fishbein and the Singers Marin from California. We have participated in interfaith services like the services with Brookemeade UCC or The Table Lutheran Church. We have hosted important events like the Pride Spirituality Night and the vigil for Nex Benedict. We have brought Nashville in Harmony back home to where it all began, twenty years ago. We have created meaningful services like Holi, the Winter Solstice, the Communion Service, the Taize-style service, Music Sundays, and Christmas Eve. I am so appreciative of my time here and will take all that I have learned into my next ministry setting.
In conversation with Rev. Diane, I have planned May 4th to be my last Sunday. This gives the church about a month of notice. In addition, I have lined up Josh Figueroa, who subbed for me during my ankle surgery, to be a long-term sub while future plans for leadership of the music program are being developed. I have also planned music through the end of June, both congregational and choral, though it can all be changed as necessary.
I thank you all for a wonderful chapter in my life and in my ministry. I plan to stay adjacently connected to FUUN, especially for their 75th Anniversary Celebration, and obviously through my connection to Nashville in Harmony. I will continue to hold FUUN in my thoughts and prayers as you continue the important work that you do in people’s lives, in this city, and in our world.
With peace and thanks,
Rev. Wesley King
